Back Cover Design

Initially my idea for the back cover was to be a seamless transition across. Making the front and back connected through the use of imagery. However after test printing my publication onto basic a4 photocopy paper, I found that it was too basic and was letting the overall design down.

So I revisited the back and thought "how can I use this space" I thought about how other magazine might use this space for marketing and advertisements. I started thinking about how I could visually advertise the website 'lostandfoundmagazine.com'.

I started to work with some imagery I had used in the past and tried to create this window idea in which the viewer was sort of looking into a space/screen (the idea being that its the same size as a computer display).

Test Print

It was at this point I decided to test all the spreads and see how they looked on the page. I personally felt the scale and size of the pages felt correct - maybe the text size needed adjusting but other than that, I was pleased with the result.

(as seen on the right).

However, my suspicions were confirmed. The back cover looked to empty and out of place compared to the rest of the publication. I needed to re-visit the design stage for this page and come up with something more engaging, informative and conclusive.

(my printer was low on ink).

Re-design of Back

I started to implement the ideas I had talked about earlier - mixing promotion with imagery to really attract people to the link I was providing them with. Overall I felt this was a really successful alternative to the previous idea. I felt it successfully communicated the overall tone of the publication and also separated itself from the contents.
