Spread 1

I decided the best way to stay consistent with the publications design - was to create each spread in correct order and (with the exception of the initial spread). I started working on the imagery and idea behind the first spread which was an introduction page, telling the viewer what the magazine is about. Here you can see some early initial sketches of the idea I had in mind and the where the idea ended up (also all of these spreads are filled with placeholder text (to give me an idea of what they might look like later on).

I've also included some of the elements used to build up the page. I started cutting heads out film photos I had taken in the past (applying the same editing technique shown earlier). I also wanted to include my illustrations to include that gentle nod towards the time period, in which I would be releasing my magazine.

Spread 2

My second spread will be the start of the introduction to my first band 'DAMEFRISØR'. Where I'll provide some information on what they've been up to recently during the virus (sources through social medias and media outlets). You can see my initial sketch of what I wanted this page to look like in early development is pretty close to what the layout ended up looking like.

You can also see after editing the film photo, how I cut around the subject to create that collage cut out effect on InDesign. I personally think this double page spread works very effectively and think it's near completion. Maybe a few tweaks later on in the process are needed.

For the moment, I've also used placeholder text to give me an idea of how the end result will look with text included.

Spread 3

The next spread uses single page format and will hold the interview conducted with the band (again placeholder text for the moment). I wanted this to be as legible as possible. I haven't started working on the text properly yet... However my idea for this layout is to use a simple style and highlight questions to make it easier to differentiate between the answers given.

I also wanted to include a cut out of a band member so I applied the same editing technique and added their guitarist in there to add a little imagery. I think this was a close re-creation of my initial sketch.

Spread 4

My fourth spread adds a break to longer segments on bands (4 pages) and changes the pace to 2 page coverage. It focuses on a single image that spans over both pages. The title is big and bold, to match the status of the band. I initially didn't know where I would place text on this spread. However when I was constructing the pages in InDesign I found a nice space below the imagery that isn't too alarming and doesn't steal focus from the importance of the image.

I also added the sketched to this spread as I felt they added that stylistic USP and they blended well to an image of this size.

Spread 5

I've already gone into detail with this spread. However I chose to include it here to show it in a wider context and so you could see which order it comes in the publication.

I also made some tweaks and changes to the position of the photo and sizes of the boxes.
