Initial Idea

I chose to collect 10 Images of the band 'Shame' (a band to emerge from the alternative music scene). These images related to my essay and I felt that I would use this style of imagery later on in the project.

What words does Steyerl use to describe images from the internet?

- Poor Image - Wretched of the Screen, Trash.

- High Quality - Impressive, more mimetic and magic, more scary and seductive.

What are Steyerl’s arguments in praise of low quality images? Why does she like them?

- “The circulation of poor images creates a circuit, which fulfills the original ambitions of militant and (some) essayistic and experimental cinema—to create an alternative economy of images, an imperfect cinema existing inside as well as beyond and under commercial media streams.”

What do they say about the age we live in?
